The Dancing Stillness
by: Katherine Pontarolo-Maag
Yesterday I ran through stillness
just me, the eternal sigh of the wind, and the whistling birds
Time’s envelope close around me...
as I step, step, stepped ahead, it gave in,
opening to let me in
and closing tight behind –
the silent presence that keeps me in motion
I look up and see the birds' beaks meet the wall that is the wind,
flap, flap, flapping their wings
yet suspended, not moving ahead, not falling behind,
now part of the stillness that dances near the dirt roads where I run.
